Web server - you can install Apache, PHP, and Content Management Systems like WordPress, Drupal or Joomla, and host your own websites.Backup server - you can set DS418 to automatically create backups of all the PCs that are connected to the network.Video surveillance - if you have a small business or a private property that needs to monitor several areas with surveillance cameras, you can use the DS418 to store their video footage, and access it whenever it is needed.Multimedia server - you can set the DS418 to store and download pictures, music and videos, and then use it to stream your content to the devices that are part of your network.Private cloud storage service - you get access to apps for all platforms, and you can create your version of Dropbox or OneDrive. So that should be quick enough. Here are some of the things that you can do with your DiskStation DS418: I recently upgraded my ISP’s router to an Asus mesh system (I have 2 RT-AC67U’s) and the Synology is connected with ethernet to the network. I think the network itself is not the bottleneck. What settings do you guys reckon myDS418 can handle best while maintaining as much quality as possible? So I should probably convert it with Handbrake or something similar to get it to a quality that my DS418 can send comfortably over my network. I’ve tried the ‘Optimize’ settings in the Plex, but that’s something the paltry Realtek processor definitely can’t handle: optimizing a 50 minute show took about 5 hours. The processor in the DS418 is probably not capable enough to transcode this content on the fly. The video loads for a while, plays for a few seconds, and and then has to load again. Most of it streams just fine, but it struggles with larger, higher quality files. Hello! So I have a bunch of content on my DS418 that I want to stream to my Plex devices (mostly a PS4, but also some iPhones and iPads).
